Great N'Awlins cuisine and a fine place to enjoy another evening with Mississippi Crossing. We're going to be doing a nice mix of songs for a Winter's night, with our usual aoustic mix of standards, rock, folk, alt-county, rock, etc.

It’s been a while between gigs, but we’re back at Evangeline’s Bistro and Music House, 512 N. Euclid Ave. in the Central West End, on Thursday, January 15, 7 to 10pm. Here’s a tip. Get there a little before 7, while it’s still Happy Hour. Specials on wine, cocktails, beers. Once more, we’ll be doing some “songs that string bands shouldn’t do.” In this category, we do the Kinks’ Lola, Spriit’s Nature's Way, and, moving in the 21st century, Green Day’s Basket Case. We’ll do a few older than anyone in the audience, like, Sunny Side of the Street. Commenting on the times, we’ve got Mad World and Steve Earle’s City of Immigrants. In honor of Winter, we’ll do Let It Snow and Song for a Winter’s Night (G. Lightfoot). In honor of the passing of Raul Malo, we have two Mavericks’ tunes ready to go (first set, don’t miss it; dancing shoes optional). Three other new songs in our repertoire will be Siera Farrel’s Whispering Waltz, Lucinda Williams’ Essenece and a Django Reinhart version of the Allman Bros’ Jessica (not for 7 minutes, however). Since we haven’t seen most of you in the new year, we’re doing Slaid Cleaves’ Just Give Me One Good Year. And we have four John Prine songs in the first two sets. Much more too! It’ll be a blast!!
